Getting to know our team: It’s all about Mimi

Beautiful, charismatic, funny, carefree, tall, confident, slim-but-curvy, Mimi Fall is many things but never, ever would we describe her as boring. In fact she is so very interesting that doing her photo shoot was like watching a live version of a sitcom, she barely needed prompting with both her interview and shoot. We’re still in recovery from the day she rocked into our studio in her simple but chic outfit of blue jeans, vest top and black floppy sun hat, with legs up to her arm pits and lips to out-pout Kylie Jenner any day (no fillers here). Not only were we in awe of her natural ability in front of the camera, but she also had us in stitches with her infectious personality.

Vintage Child: Mimi thank you for coming in. We love what you're wearing and you're clearly into your clothes, how would you describe your style in three words?

Mimi Fall: Laid back, comfortable and neutral, but I feel like I have a split-personality when it comes to my style. I have my not-very-put-together style which came from when I used to work at Hollister so I have loads of preppy clothes from there. Then I have my going out style which is a lot more glam, my friends say I’m city-chic, I love putting on a pair of heels to go dancing out in London.

VC: Well you look great today, what was your worst fashion disaster?

MF: If you go years back then everything I wore was really offensive. I had a pair of printed, velvet leggings and I loved them so wore them everywhere. They looked like Juicy Couture tracksuit bottoms and I wore them with printed tops. It wasn't even just a one off offence I did it all the time, it was kind of my signature look.

VC: We actually think they sound pretty funky! Before we get started with the shoot we'd love to know if you've ever had any really awkward modelling jobs?

MF: One time I was doing this shoot where the stylist had like 20 different outfits and the photographer was really good but they had this makeup artist who was so bad that she made me look like a clown. The photographer and stylist didn’t know what to say and neither did I, so I tried to fix it myself but it was beyond the point where I could do anything. All the photos turned out really bad because I had blue eyeshadow and she drew me these really thick, hench eyebrows that covered my whole forehead. All the pictures were so bad!

Another time me and my friend were doing a bikini shoot for a photographer, who we thought was gay, but turns out I really don’t think he was. While we were doing the shoot he kept saying, ‘I just want you guys to stand really, really close together and feel the tension between you.’ So we looked at each other and he made a grunting sound and looked like he was really enjoying it. We were just like, ‘euugghhh'.

VC: Yikes that does sound awkward! From the worst to the best: how would you describe your perfect day?

MF:  I’m on holiday in Palm Springs. I wake up and someone appears with breakfast in bed, it’s a pain au chocolate and granola with yoghurt and honey. I have a few drinks, like champagne, with breakfast and then go out shopping with my best friend Emma and some black and white pugs. We’re walking them along the boulevard and then we have some lunch, like chicken, in a chicken café. After that, our two boyfriends come along - Brodrick and Nick, two model best friends - and we all go for a drive to the beach for some drinks and a massage and a mani-pedi and then go to a bar on the beach and have a beach party. We go out to a really nice club and the DJ invites us up to dance in the DJ booth. There has to be a bit of drama though for it to be a good night, so I feel like one of the boys has to have a fight. So this guy that used to be in love with Emma comes up and punches Nick. Broderick and I are just flabbergasted. Then Nick beats him up and it all works out, then we have a laugh about it. We then get another round of drinks and we just go home and order a pizza.

VC: Sounds like a hectic night, what do you do to relax?

MF: I‘m on borrowmydoggie so I walk other people’s pugs. I like baking, photography and writing short stories but I don’t have much time to do it at the moment, I like sewing and dress making too but am just too busy. Drinking and chicken I always have time for though.

VC: A girl after our own heart, so what's the future for Mimi Fall?

MF: I was thinking about this the other day; that I need some direction. I’m doing an English degree so decided that after I graduate I want to teach English as a foreign language abroad. I like the idea of working in Dubai as they pay is good and they look after you, then I could learn about different cultures and travel. Maybe while I’m out there find an Arab prince, so I don’t have to get a real job! If that doesn’t happen then I’ll find a career when I come back to England. Probably teach for a few years and then figure out what I want to do after that, I’m in no rush.

VC: Thank you so much Mimi, all we want to know now is what was your favourite bag from the shoot and how would you style it?

The Wanderer in Black Suede:

I would wear it with high waist jeans, like my Joni jeans from Topshop, I live in them and have a variety of colours. Then pair it with a cropped sweatshirt and one of my million pairs of ankle boots.
