Dare to do Denim

We all know when summers arrived because whatever the weather girls everywhere dare to bare their legs and jump into a pair of denims. With festivals rocking out up and down the country we're beginning to see more and more denim cut off’s, daisy dukes, denim short-shorts and denim hot-pants, whatever you like to call them they're short and they're denim. Perfect for trips abroad, days out and picnics in the blistering British sun (ahem). This summer we're seeing all styles from the brightest boldest neons to pastel pinks and blues. Denim shorts are a must have at any festival this year whether you're wading through mud or slapping on the sun cream and luckily they'll look as good with your Hunters as they do with a pair of cheeky pumps. They're super easy to wear day-to-day too, paired with a crop top or a printed tee and a pair of summer sandals and possibly a vintage jacket for when the heavens decide open.

We all know that Rihanna loves a good pair of cut-off denim shorts, she has a pair in every denim wash as well as studded, floral and distressed. Whether Rihanna teams her denim shorts with a faded vintage tee or a crop top she always makes them look effortless and scandalously sexy. Rhianna wore a scarf in her hair to match her pale pink tee and a leather cuff shoulder bag below to give the look an extra Daisy Duke edge. And she teamed the outfit with the very same red polka dot 50's style sandals that she wore in her Man Down video, if your wondering where you've seen them before. Rhianna was the headliner at last weekends Wireless festival on the third day, just weeks after also headlining Hackney weekend, and she treated the crowds to all the classics such as Please Don't Stop the Music and suitably everybody got their umbrellas out while they the hit favourite Umbrella.

It's Rita Ora v Rosie Huntington-Whitley in the denim shorts wars

Rita keeps with her vintage rock chic style and teams the daisy print gem shorts, by Christopher Kane for J Brand, with light denier tights (complete with ladders down the leg) and a sexy black leotard.

Rosie shows off  her inner hippie with the very same pair. She matches the white daisies with a white floaty shirt and boho jewellery perfect for summer.

Rosie went for the girlie look and Rita went for the rock chic look. I don't know about you, but we think they both pulled off the short denim cut offs to perfection.

Jessie J was one of the most highly anticipated acts at the prestigious Wireless festival last weekened and she didn't disappoint with her style or her music. Jessie was amongst the 'must-see' performances of the day and even though the heavens well and truly opened throughout majority of her performance she still wowed the crowds with her hits Price Tag and Domino. Jessie J was a well deserved warm up act to the headliner Rihanna and she appeared wearing a pair of short cut offs with a colourful shirt hanging out, a simple white crop top and black printed tights. If the summer weather doesn't pick up there's no reason why you shouldn’t join in the denim shorts fun, why not team with a funky pair of tights in neon or a print just like Jessie's.

The only way to celebrate the summer season is to get out those legs and put on some crazy colours. Bold and bright is back and we're doing it neon style, so here at VintageChild we've got some fab vintage 1980's cut off Levi's with hand drawn neon prints as well as the bleached out faded look. All of our reclaimed shorts are hand made with individual designs, no two are the same and each are totally individual.
